Cleaning & Polishing Kit - How to Use

WristClean's Cleaning & Polishing Kit provides the necessary products to keep your watch looking like new.  Our formulas are USA made and our products have been tested and engineered for watches specifically.  They will help you keep your watch clean and free of impurities that rob your watch of its natural luster.  They will also help you remove scratches to keep your surfaces brilliant and beautiful.

Our products are ideal to use between professional servicing appointments with your watch dealer or watch manufacturer. It is important to note that like any watch polishing, while polish restores a beautiful luster to your wristwatch, we advise that you use it sparingly and discerningly.  For example, you may want to use it 1-5 times per year, not several times per month.  The act of polishing does remove metal, even slightly, and you want to be careful to not remove "the sharpness of edges of your watch case and/or bracelet."  To help reduce the amount of polish needed, WristClean includes 3 different polish grit paper - light, medium and heavy grit.  As an enthusiast, you can use your judgement upon what is needed.  Our Ultra Fine Polish for highly-polished surfaces is one grit level (very light) and you can repeat several times to achieve more of a mirror-like finish.

How to Clean Your Watch

Ensure that your watch is water-resistant.  If not, you may spray or foam a microfiber cloth and wipe your watch surfaces to clean.  If your watch is water-resistant, we advise the following recommendations:

  1. Rinse your watch with water. Wet your WristClean Watch Brush, if using, such as our Jubilee Brush, Essential, Monaco, or Geneva Brush.
  2. Foam or spray your watch with our WristClean Watch Cleaner.  Use your fingers to spread the suds over your watch surfaces.  If using a WristClean brush, gently brush the surfaces and crevices with its already wet bristles.
  3. Rinse your watch with water.  This is not necessary, but produces a cleaner surface, as the water rinses away any impurities that the cleaner emulsified.
  4. Dry your watch with WristClean's Drying Towel or a WristClean microfiber cloth (Everyday, Ultra-Daily, HD5 Cloth).

How to Use Polish Paper on Brushed Metal Surfaces

WristClean includes 3 types of Brushed Metal Surfaces - WHITE (light grit), PINK (medium grit), and GREY (heavy grit).  This is ideal to remove scratches on brushed metal surfaces (not shiny or reflective metal).

General rule of use:  Always start with the least amount of grit needed and increase the grit if needed(for example from WHITE to PINK or PINK to GREY).  After the desired results are achieved, end by returning to the lesser grit size (for example from GREY to PINK and/or PINK to WHITE).

For brushed metal links or bracelets:  Take a small piece of grit paper (LIGHT, MEDIUM, or HEAVY) and wipe the surface from TOP TO BOTTOM (not side to side).  You want to wipe in the direction of the metal finish.  If that does not remove the scratch, increase to the higher grit size (PINK OR GREY). After the desired results are achieved, end by returning to the lesser grit size (for example from GREY to PINK and/or PINK to WHITE).

For brushed metal watch cases or lugs:  Take a small piece of grit paper (LIGHT, MEDIUM, or HEAVY) and wipe the surface in the direction of the metal finish.  If that does not remove the scratch, increase to the higher grit size (PINK OR GREY). After the desired results are achieved, end by returning to the lesser grit size (for example from GREY to PINK and/or PINK to WHITE).

How to Use Ultra-Fine Polish on Highly-Polished Surfaces

WristClean's Ultra-Fine Polish is designed to remove scratches from highly-polished surfaces.  It's a very low grade-grit.  It will NOT remove all scratches and is less effective than a professional machine.  It will however improve the surface scratches by either removing them or making them appear smaller.

Take a small dab of polish on a microfiber cloth and rub the highly-polished watch surface back and forth in a rapid movement.  The cloth will appear black (that is normal).  Take a microfiber cloth and wipe the surface clean.  If the scratch remains, you can repeat this to achieve a shinier surface.

An alternative approach is to take a small dab of polish and wipe on a microfiber cloth and rub the highly-polished surface with the cloth.

Note:  If brushed metal becomes shiny during the process and was unavoidable given the proximity to the highly-polished surface you were polishing, you can always use the Polish Paper for Brushed Metal to go back and polish to restore a brushed look to the desired surfaces.
